I dedicate this song to the Japanese people. I know that their strength and willpower will see them through this terrible disaster and they will end up even stronger on the other side. I was devastated when I heard the news of the earthquake and tsunami. My first thoughts were to find out if my dear friends there were ok, they were. I was just in japan playing shows last summer, my third time there. Of all the places I have toured and made friends- japan has always been the country where I really don't want to leave, I always want to stay. I have made true friends there over the years that I think about a lot, and fans that have been so generous and nice. My best memories as a musician in a band or solo are all in Japan. I can not begin to understand what it is like to experience a catastrophe like this, but what I have seen and been inspired by is the spirit of the people in the midst of all this. I am proud to be your friend and be on this compilation.

Our hearts go out to Japan in this tragic time of grieving. Japan is a lovely country and has always been a favorite of ours to visit. From hiking the trails of Kamakura to spending light-filled nights out in Tokyo and Osaka, we've found the people and places in Japan to be filled with a beautiful spirit. Playing concerts in Japan has also been a highlight for us, as the audiences are some of the most warm and respectful people we've played for. We hope and believe that during this time, the Japanese people's strength and spirit will prevail and they will rebuild and recover from their loss.

物心ついてから、僕はいつも日本のカルチャーに惹かれていました。僕が小さな頃、数学者だった父が学会で日本を訪れたとき、日本語で彼の名前が書かれたすばらしいポスターを持って帰ってきました。ポスターには日本語で彼の名前が書かれていて、すごくクールだと思いました。彼がロックスターか何かみたいに感じられたんです。数年後、思春期にランシドやグリーンディみたいなバンドを聞くようになった時、彼らロックスターが日本にツアーに行っていることを知りました。ものすごい人ごみの映像、アメリカとは違うインタビュー、スペシャルバージョンのレコード（実際にいくつも輸入しました！）…、僕にとって日本は前のめりなミュージシャンでいるための特別な場所だったんです。だから今の自分が信じられなく� �…日本で２枚もアルバムをリリースすることができたなんて。震災のニュースを聞いたときはUKツアー中だったので、スターバックスやバーに行ってテレビニュースを見ていました。めちゃくちゃだと思いました。厳しく聞こえるかもしれないけれど、家や友人、家族など、すべてをなくした人の数が多すぎて信じられませんでした。ほかにも何かできればと心から思っていますが、僕たちが曲を贈ることで、皆さんが喜んでくれると嬉しいです。困難な状況が続きますが、少しずつでも快方に向かうよう祈っています。オランダからWillem, Sjouke, Daniel & Tim.
Ever since I can remember, I was always drawn towards the Japanese culture. I remember as a little boy, my dad went over there for a conference (He's a mathematician) and he brought home these amazing Japanese posters that had all these Japanese symbols on them, save for his name. That was so cool to me, it felt like he was somekind of rockstar. Years later, hitting puberty and discovering bands such as Rancid and Green Day, I found out that Japan IS the place to tour for rockstars. All the videos of insane crowds, all the different kinds of interviews, special japanese versions of records ( I actually imported a lot of them, sorry!), to me Japan was the place to be as an aspiring musician. I couldn't have dreamt to be where I am now, having released already two records in your country. We were touring the UK when I heard the terrible news, and we practically visited every starbucks, or any bar for that matter, that had a TV on. It's insane. It might sound a bit harsh, but the numbers of people that lost homes, friends, family, everything... It just doesn't seem real. I sincerely wish we could do more than donate a song. But since that is what we do, I hope you can appreciate our effort. We wish you all the best doesn't cut it. But we do, and we hope that things will get better soon. テレビで見る日本を襲った地震と津波の映像には本当にぞっとしました。被災地に住んでいる方、特に家や友人、家族を失った方のことを思うと胸が痛みます。UKにいる我々には計り知れない困難に直面されていると思いますが、日本は皆様の心と勇気によって必ずや復興されることと確信しています。甚大なる挑戦や信じがたいほどの努力に対して、曲を録音することなど微々たる貢献かもしれません。しかし、たくさんの人々がこのコンピレーションを求め、日本の復興の一助となることを願ってやみません。
The television pictures of the earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan were some of the most horrifying and frightening things I have ever seen. I can barely begin to imagine what it was like and still is like for the people that actually live in the affected areas, especially those who have lost homes, friends and relatives. The task facing Japan to rebuild seems overwhelming to us here in the UK, and yet thanks to the spirit and courageousness of the Japanese people we are already watching proof that it can be done. Against the enormity of the challenge and the incredible efforts of others, recording a song seems a paltry contribution, but I hope that enough people buy this compilation for the money it raises to make a real difference.

I have played a lot of concerts in Japan as Bichi and Blue Foundation. I have shared the stage with Tenniscoat, Cacoy, Numb, Sokai, Cokiyo, D.O.I., DJ Baku, DJ Klock, Secai, Calm, Saidrum, DJ Krush… etc. Most of these artist are my very close friends. They know my family. They have lived in my home. I've been to their weddings. We have created art together. I live in New York these day, but I see Tokyo as my second home. I love that city. The earthquake in Japan had a big emotional impact on me. I've been reading the news ever since with questions like - How bad is the situation? Is my friend ok? I wrote the song "Broken Life" to my friends in Tokyo. It's the first new Blue Foundation song to be released in a long time. I'm very excited about my cooperation with Cecilie Trier from Choir of young Believers and Chimes and Bells. She plays the beautiful evil cello on the song. I really hope you'll like it.
